Battlecannon Blast list.

So a little bored in work at the moment and decided to throw together a list for upsetting S7 and lower weapons, even S8 grumbles at this list possibly.

So the list may not be the best or most refined but it could be a real ''Blast'' to play... built around Leman Russes to give both anti infantry via blasts, and anti tank via the same blasts but adding in some Lascannons for the hulls.

Even in Epic a group of Leman Russes make me get the shivers...

List is as follows:

1850 Pts - Imperial Guard Roster

HQ: Lord Commissar (1#, 75 pts)
   1 Lord Commissar, 75 pts = (base cost 70 + Melta Bombs 5)

Troops: Veteran Squad (11#, 145 pts)
   9 Veteran Squad, 83 pts = 9 * 7 (base cost 7) + Meltagun x2 20
      1 Veteran Sergeant, 7 pts
      1 Chimera, 55 pts

Troops: Veteran Squad (11#, 145 pts)
   9 Veteran Squad, 83 pts = 9 * 7 (base cost 7) + Meltagun x2 20
      1 Veteran Sergeant, 7 pts
      1 Chimera, 55 pts

Heavy Support: Leman Russ Squadron (3#, 495 pts)
1 Leman Russ Squadron, 0 pts
      1 Leman Russ Battle Tank, 165 pts = (base cost 150 + Lascannon 15)
      1 Leman Russ Battle Tank, 165 pts = (base cost 150 + Lascannon 15)
      1 Leman Russ Battle Tank, 165 pts = (base cost 150 + Lascannon 15)

Heavy Support: Leman Russ Squadron (3#, 495 pts)
1 Leman Russ Squadron, 0 pts
      1 Leman Russ Battle Tank, 165 pts = (base cost 150 + Lascannon 15)
      1 Leman Russ Battle Tank, 165 pts = (base cost 150 + Lascannon 15)
      1 Leman Russ Battle Tank, 165 pts = (base cost 150 + Lascannon 15)

Heavy Support: Leman Russ Squadron (3#, 495 pts)
1 Leman Russ Squadron, 0 pts
      1 Leman Russ Battle Tank, 165 pts = (base cost 150 + Lascannon 15)
      1 Leman Russ Battle Tank, 165 pts = (base cost 150 + Lascannon 15)
      1 Leman Russ Battle Tank, 165 pts = (base cost 150 + Lascannon 15)

As you can see it really is not good for holding objectives, but it can provide a hell of a wall of AV14 and 9 large blasts per turn and 9 lascannons a turn focused on 3 seperate targets, although with points for 1850 being so few after adding the tanks two veteran squads with only 2 meltas were all I could afford without leaving no points for a HQ... unless I dropped the Lord Commissar and got a tech priest... which then opens the doors for giving both vet squads an autocannon (and flamer, though this is not for anti tank!) for some backup lighter anti tank... not sure if this trade off is worth it as with squads the vehicles will wreck instead of immobing, but it allows the chimeras to be fixed hopefully.

Also the trade off giving a flamer to both vets may help anti horde up close slightly better. Although you can drop the autocannons for a third Meltagun in each squad and have 10 points spare which I'm musing on spending on either a hunter killer or a dozer blade for one Chimera for zipping forward to try to cap a point.

  1. This is the kind of list that's fun to play, but not horribly competitive. But it looks so fun who cares. I'd slam this army down on the table against my group any night, especially one of our narrative nights, where army lists evolve as the campaigns unfold, it would be loads of fun to start a story about a list like this.

  2. I'd love to play against this; or just watch!

    I'd fail utterly though...

  3. I agree, it wuldn't hold up too well at tourneys, bar maybe an odd upset match for opponents not prepared for long range AV14. Though it is a very fun list with a difference, and has a strong mechanical tank company (the chimera men I count as the engineers for the tanks) and the lord commissar (Company commander)...

Its a pity Pask cannot be taken as a HQ and a leman russ as his ride. Then it would be more like the imp armour style.
